Over a year later, we finally painted our guest bedroom & office using Farrow & Ball Pigeon! This is the room where we DIY’d a Murphy bed with built-in inset cabinets (see the tutorial here). We finished building the DIY horizontal Murphy bed for our guest bedroom & office earlier this month. It looks amazing! There were a few setbacks. In addition to uneven walls and ceiling, the Murphy bed and custom built-in cabinets were beyond Brian’s carpentry skillset. But he persevered and did an incredible job with the seamless design in this 7′ tall room in our basement.

I am three years overdue but finally sharing the steps for the knee wall cabinets that are the perfect solution for storage in our loft, aka Brian’s band practice space. If you followed along with our garage attic renovation back in 2021, you will know that one of our objectives was to make this space very useable. To not only act as a band practice room but for storage, too. To accomplish this goal, we turned the knee walls into hidden storage cabinets and they are everything!

Looking for inspiration to adding classic design elements to your ensuite bedroom? I’m sharing my design boards in this post.

I feel like the ensuite bedroom is always last on everyone’s list. It is for us at least, from a design standpoint. When we moved in, we stripped the old peeling wallpaper, painted the walls, refinished the wood floor and called it a day.  That’s actually a lot of work! It wasn’t until we renovated the ensuite bathroom that the design elements for our bedroom came into play.

Phase 2 of our #stuccofarmhouse rental property renovation began in early April. We renovated the first floor interiors of both units in the duplex and finished out the basement in the cabin unit. Our current tenant in the cabin renewed his lease and was delighted to have a usable basement. The plan was to finish at the end of May and lease out the two duplex units in June but no later than July 1st.

*We cleaned our teak wood outdoor furniture with a no-sanding method using products that state they are “ideal for use on teak, rosewood, eucalyptus, bamboo, and mahogany”

About nine years ago, we got our second-hand Smith & Hawken teak wood outdoor dining furniture set for our patio.
